“Let’s talk about… vol.3. Childhood memories”. A series of conversational meetings in English

What’s something special you remember from your childhood? Was it when you lost your first tooth? Was it when you first learned how to ride a bike? Or maybe your best memories are connected to your family or school life?

On the third edition of „Let’s Talk About” (a series of conversational meetings in English 16+, unusual, because they concern important, social, urban topics) let’s revisit our childhood memories and talk about all the things connected to our early years – first holidays, favourite playground games, hobbies, pets and friendships.

📅 Meetings take place every Tuesday at 17:30 (from 13 February 2024)

Where? Passage of Dialogue, 19 Świdnicka Street, Wrocław

The moderator of the speaking club is Ewa Gruszewska. She left Poland when she was 19 and came back after almost a decade. Studied social sciences in the UK & the Netherlands, is very much into migration of people and meaning we create. Teaches English and Polish as a foreign languages.

By participating in the meetings, you will develop your language skills, learn new vocabulary, meet and talk to people from different backgrounds, of different ages, different views. We talk about important topics, but in a relaxed atmosphere. Communicative knowledge of English is welcome.

Registration is applicable for the entire series of workshops (February-May 2024). If you are unable to attend some of them please let us know by email: przejsciedialogu@wcrs.pl.

• Podczas zajęć mówimy w języku angielskim. Pamiętaj, że „Let’s Talk About” to zajęcia konwersacyjne. Staramy się mówić tylko i wyłącznie w języku angielskim. Uwierz nam, że ta zasada pozwoli Tobie i innymi uczestnikom szybko przestawić się na płynne mówienie w tym języku 🙂 We speak English during classes. Remember that “Let's Talk About” is a speaking club. We try to speak only English. Believe us, this rule will allow you and other participants to quickly switch to speaking this language fluently 🙂

• Zwracaj uwagę na komfort innych uczestników. Uczestnikami zajęć mogą być osoby w różnym wieku, różnej narodowości, o różnych doświadczeniach. Pamiętaj, żeby Twoje wypowiedzi oraz zachowanie było empatyczne, z poszanowaniem odmiennego zdania współuczestników. / Pay attention to the comfort of other participants. The participants of the classes can be people of different ages, different nationalities, and with different experiences. Remember that your statements and behavior should be empathetic, respecting the different opinions of other participants.

• Masz pytanie czy wątpliwość w sprawie języka lub organizacji zajęć? Zwróć się do prowadzącej. Jeżeli masz pytanie co do organizacji zajęć, słownictwa czy tłumaczenia, zadaj je osobie prowadzącej. Możesz też skorzystać z translatora w telefonie, przynieść słownik lub listę słówek. Pamiętaj, że inni uczestnicy są tutaj by skorzystać z zajęć, prosząc o tłumaczenie na język inny niż angielski dekoncentrujesz ich, sprawiasz, że nie mogą w pełni skorzystać ze spotkania. To normalne, że czasami możesz zrozumieć tylko ogólny sens wypowiedzi albo że brakuje Ci słów do przekazania złożonych myśli. Techniki radzenia sobie w takich sytuacjach to też część nauki posługiwania się językiem obcym. / Do you have a question or doubt about language or organization of classes? Ask the teacher. If you have a question about the organization of classes, vocabulary or translation, ask the teacher. You can also use the translator on your phone, bring a dictionary or a vocabulary list. Remember that other participants are here to benefit from the classes, asking for translation into a language other than English distracts them and prevents them from fully benefiting from the meeting. It is normal that sometimes you can only understand the general meaning of what is being said or that you lack the words to convey complex thoughts. Techniques for dealing with such situations are also part of learning to use a foreign language.
